Governments Using Location Data for Pandemic

According to the Wall Street Journal and MacRumors, the U.S. government has acquired location tracking data from mobile companies. This seems to be no surprised as cell phone companies have kept this kind of information stored. And often enough, they work along side the government to bring any kind of helpful information.

The reasoning behind the governments access to the location sharing data comes from the Conoravirus outbreak.

The information will be used to learn how well people are complying with stay-at-home orders, according to WSJ. Citing an example, the report says researchers discovered large numbers of people were gathering in a New York City park, which led them to notify local authorities.

There were reports of other countries implementing this kind of tracking in their areas to see how well citizens are following the rules.
