Remove Temporary Files on Windows 11

Temporary files are kept on the device by the Windows 11 operating system as well as by applications. While they may serve a brief purpose, these files are not required for the device to operate normally. They don’t typically create any problems at all most of the time.

Because of the amount of storage space that is consumed by these documents, it is possible that you will be unable to update to a more recent version of the operating system if your laptop or desktop computer is nearing its storage capacity limit.

Here’s how to delete temporary files off of your operating system:

Go to System under the Settings App. Once you’re there, click on Storage. When you see “temporary files”, you can click on that option and remove what is unnecessary.

Windows OS in S Mode

Windows 11 in S mode is a version of the Windows operating system that has been simplified for the purposes of improving both security and performance, while maintaining the Windows-like user experience.

What is S Mode, exactly?

Simply put, a Windows OS that has more restrictions and is harder to access is Windows 10, or Windows 11 in S Mode.

For instance, when using Windows 10 in S Mode, the only place from which you can download apps is the Store, and Microsoft Edge is the only browser that can be used to surf the internet. When using Windows 11 in S Mode, you can visit the Microsoft Store to download and install other web browsers. However, Edge will be set as your default web browser.

Long story, short: Only apps downloaded from the Microsoft Store are permitted, and users are need to have Microsoft Edge installed in order to conduct secure web browsing.

Security is enhanced, since malware cannot infiltrate through the internet in S Mode. You cannot install any form of apps from the browser.

What’s the point?

Tech blog, How-to-Geek explains it perfectly. “S Mode sounds limited, and that’s the point. If you only need a basic Microsoft Edge web browser, Microsoft Office applications like Word, and anything else that’s available in the Microsoft Store, you should try using the PC in S Mode. The S Mode restrictions provide additional protection against malware.”

Uninstall Optional Update, Microsoft Says

Users of Windows 11 are advised to uninstall a recent update, according to Microsoft.

New Windows 11 Feature Available

A new dedicated feature coming to Windows 11 has tech blogs talking. Named “Voice Clarity”, this particular newcomer is being tested to some PC’s, but not all.

According to WindowsLatest, “Unlike Teams noise cancellation, which is baked into the Teams app, Microsoft’s new Voice Clarity feature works at the OS level and it aims to capture the entire audio spectrum of your audio at higher bandwidth.”

For now, it’s said Voice Clarity only works on Surface laptop Studio, but will hopefully start rolling out to other devices soon.

Change Default Browser on Windows 11

Microsoft appears to have grown particularly active in pushing its own programs over the default apps installed before to the update in its latest version of Windows. If you updated to Windows 11, you may find Microsoft Edge is the default browser.

Changing Windows 10 default applications are quite easy. However, according to The Verge, “the process for changing your defaults in Windows 11 has become more complicated than it was in Windows 10. So you may not get that handy request — or if you do, it may land you on a complicated-looking page headed App > Default apps.”

Here’s how to change your default browser on Windows 11:

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps
  2. Type in preferred browser name (Firefox, Chrome, etc.)
  3. Click on “Set default”

If you’d prefer your file and link types to coincide with the same browser, you can change those as well.

Update to Microsoft’s Paint App

Last month, Microsoft revamped its ever popular Pain App. Round edges and Mica are just two of the new features of Microsoft’s revamped Paint program. A new toolbar based on Office and the rest of Windows 11’s programs was included as part of the redesign.

After a long cosmetic revamp, Microsoft is going to release a new version of Paint.

What is Mica?

According to Microsoft Docs, “Mica is an opaque, dynamic material that incorporates theme and desktop wallpaper to paint the background of long-lived windows such as apps and settings. You can apply Mica to your application backdrop to delight users and create visual hierarchy, aiding productivity, by increasing clarity about which window is in focus. Mica is specifically designed for app performance as it only samples the desktop wallpaper once to create its visualization.”

When Windows 11 version 22H2 is released later 2022, this Paint software will more than likely be pre-installed. We shall see!

New Update Speeds up Windows 11

Updates come with a variety of new features and security formats. In the upcoming Windows 11 update, the process will be throttled in efficiency mode to avoid interfering with the foreground experience.

According to WindowsLatest, “With Windows 11 Build 22557, Microsoft is trying to implement a feature that will allow users to limit the “resource allocation on a per-app process basis”. So instead of utilizing “End Task” on the Task Manager, the new “Efficiency mode reduces process base priority to low and sets QoS mode to EcoQoS.”

As noted, when you configure several processes to use less resources, Windows will automatically assign free resources to higher-priority processes. This is all based on the circumstances of your PC.

Notepad and Media Player Updated on Windows 11

Microsoft stated last month that it will begin bringing out an Android app compatibility and Taskbar upgrades to all Windows 11 users in February. They also included a refreshment of Notepad and Media Player.

At the heart of Media Player is a full-featured music library that allows you to quickly browse and play music, as well as create and manage playlists. All your content in the music and video folders on your PC will appear automatically in your library, and you can also tell Media Player where to look for additional content in app settings. Media Player is optimized for accessibility, with improved keyboard shortcuts and access keys for keyboard users as well as with other assistive technologies.

The Media Player app has taken the position of the Groove Music app. As a result, if your music collection is already in Groove Music, your library and playlists will be immediately migrated.

As far as Notepad, Microsoft states, “Menus have also been simplified to make it easier to find the actions you want to take in the app, and we’ve added new highly requested features like multi-level undo, colorful emojis, and a modern and efficient find-and-replace experience.” The revamped UI, or user interface, seems modern with a new design aspect from Windows 11.

If you would like to try out the new Notepad or Windows Media Player, just head over to the Microsoft Store and download them.
