New Task Manager Design

The Task Manager in Windows 11 is undergoing significant changes, including the addition of dark mode support. According to experts, the new design is built on top of the previous interface. In the final version, you might be able to restore the traditional appearance. The previous Task Manager’s tabs have been replaced with a sidebar, which allows you to navigate between the app’s many parts.

The new Task Manager follows the same approach as the existing app. For example, there are no changes to the process, performance and other tabs.

The tabbed approach that Task Manager currently uses seems just about right, but it appears that Microsoft is switching to a new design layout where process and other tabs will appear in the hamburger menu on the left side of the app.

This new menu will house options like Process, Performance, Services, and Settings.

The Task Manager is an important core feature of Windows that appeared with Windows NT 4.0. After being revamped in Windows 8, the application hasn’t seen any substantial modifications in almost a decade.

Windows 11 Getting Weather Widget

The weather widget has been reintroduced by Microsoft.

Windows 10 users are familiar with the ‘News and Interests’ widget. By design, when hovered over on the taskbar, it emphasizes a full weather report. It also shares breaking news and sports coverage, and other random information that may be customized to suit the user’s needs.

On their announcement of the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22518, Amanda Langowski shares the plan for the widget.

“We are trying out showing the Widgets entry point on the left side of your taskbar with live weather content. You can also open the Widgets board by simply hovering over the entry point.”

Annual Major Update for Windows 10

Big news from Microsoft!!!

Windows 10 will receive significant upgrades once a year rather than every six months. Windows 11 already provides this on the OS.

According to WindowsLatest, “As you’re probably aware, Windows 11 is set to follow an annual update cadence, meaning users will receive major updates just once a year. With version 21H2 (November 2021 Update), Microsoft has confirmed the beginning of a new update cadence for the Windows 10 operating system.”

Traditionally, Microsoft allowed two major updates throughout one year. However, it seems to be better this way for developers.

To better synchronize the release schedule of its previous OS with Windows 11, Windows 10 will receive one significant upgrade every year in the future, and this will remain until 2025.

Vulnerabilities in Windows Operating System

Microsoft has verified that a major vulnerability has been discovered in all versions of Windows, posing an imminent threat.

Tracked as CVE-2021-34484, the “zero-day” flaw enables hackers to breach all versions of Windows (including Windows 10, Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022) and take control of your computer. And the worst part is the flaw has been known about for some time.

Source: Forbes

The Windows operating system unfortunately acquired this bug back in August. When the vulnerability was publicly published in October, Microsoft wrongly believed it had fixed it. They promised a new patch of security, but no word on when it will happen.

According to 0patch, however, a patch they created is available until Microsoft gets with the program. They state, “Micropatches for this vulnerability will be free until Microsoft has issued an official fix. If you want to use them, create a free account in 0patch Central, then install and register 0patch Agent from 0patch.com. Everything else will happen automatically. No computer reboots will be needed.”

The video below shows how to install the fix on your Windows OS.

Windows 11 Snipping Tool Error

Microsoft confirms a Windows 11 error with the Snipping Tool.

A “This app can’t open – A problem with Windows is preventing Screen Snipping from opening. Refreshing your PC might help fix it” error may pop up if users try to utilize the Snipping Tool app. Microsoft’s community forums have filled up with questions regarding this issue.

Microsoft says for now to try this remedy:

“For the time being, using WIN + PrintScreen, ALT + PrintScreen, or WIN + G, are alternative options if you need to take screenshots.”

Other apps and features, including voice typing and the touch keyboard are also experiencing issues. At this time, Microsoft doesn’t have an update to fix said issues. However, it appears they’re working on it.

Microsoft Store Revamp Coming to Windows 10

This year has been full of updates to a handful of Microsoft features, along with a new operating system. Developers are continuing the process of updating the Microsoft Store and allowing the Windows 10 OS to acquire it.

If you are in the Windows Insiders Program, you can now install the new Microsoft Store. According to WindowsLatest, “Microsoft originally announced Windows 11’s new app store in June, and since then, the company has been trying to improve the quality of its marketplace. Several servicing updates have been released as part of the Windows Insider Program and users have been testing the new Store on their devices for more than three months now.”

Source: Microsoft

The new Microsoft Store appears less crowded than the present app store. It is also built on XAML (UWP) code rather than WebView. This means especially when the internet connection itself is sluggish, the speed should be improved.

If you would like to try out the new Microsoft Store on your Windows 10 device, you can join the Windows Insiders Program. It’s free. We don’t know for sure when the installation will be open to the public, but hopefully soon.

What is the PC Health Check App

Microsoft will install the PC Health Check software on Windows 10 PCs. Many people sought to delete Health Check since their computer could not meet the criteria for running Windows 11.

So what’s it all about?

PC Health Check was originally designed to provide a rating for your PC, indicating whether or not it was upgradeable to Windows 11. However, Microsoft appears to have permitted many unsupported PCs to install the latest operating system.

Source: Microsoft

“Microsoft then went back and forth on its hardware requirements for Windows 11, eventually landing on a compromise that PCs without the “supported” hardware required by PC Health Check would be able to upgrade to Windows 11, but without updates. Well, some updates—anecdotal reports say some unsupported PCs are receiving Windows 11 updates, but they’re not guaranteed.”

Here’s how to uninstall PC Health Check app:
  1. Click Start
  2. Open Settings
  3. Go to Apps > Apps & Features
  4. Find “Windows PC Health Check”
  5. Click on the 3-dot icon
  6. Click Uninstall.
